As someone who has an MA TESOL and over ten years of classroom experience, I honestly wondered whether this book would be of much use to me. As it turned out, I have been pleasantly surprised as to the quality and quantity of the information contained within.

For the first week, I skimmed over several of the chapters, dipping in here and there where I was interested. When I realized the quality of the material, I went back to the start and read it from cover to cover (well…almost…it’s huge!)

The book gives an overview of the various different teaching methods that have been developed over the years. However, there is far more practical advice that was more interesting and more valuable to me. Everything from “managing your classroom” to “teaching reported speech” and everything in between is covered.

If I have any criticisms of the book, well there are a few typos here and there, but nothing serious, and I would have liked to see a more in-depth section on the use of technology in class, if only because that is something valuable to me, and it wasn’t covered very well during my MA. If you don’t use technology much, the chapter will contain all you need to know in that area.
